what an amazing bright, spring weekend, eh? (except, perhaps, if you live in minnesota or wisconsin.)
•
i got my hands in the dirt and wrangled some early weeds. adam mowed the lawn for the first time this year. we grilled our saturday night dinner and i finally think i (may have) mastered a vegetarian "meat" sauce for loaded veggie dogs. we finally watched '7 psychopaths' which i think is my current favorite movie. it reminded me of 'reservoir dogs' although not quite as violent.

we have a very exciting vacation planned for the end of this month. i plan to take full advantage of the time to relax as i have a couple big projects planned for june.
more on june to come!

a little dialogue.

.
i realize i have been communicating via pictures on this blog for a little while. i thought i would throw some words at you to let you know what's been going on.
with the arrival of the month of march, it's hard to not project to the advent of spring. i am a north country girl at heart and love the winter, but i am ready to see the sun and spend time outside without the protection of multiple layers.
to add to the impatience, we are planning a vacation to sandbridge beach in virginia in may. we will be renting a condo for a week right on the atlantic ocean. the condo is across the street from the back bay federal wildlife refuge and we will be visiting at the same time that the loggerhead turtles come ashore to lay their eggs.
i have also taken a few big steps in regards to my artwork. first, i registered to take a course taught by the talented lilla rogers and am excited to learn and connect with other peers. second, i finally submitted to exhibit for our local third thursday art walk, sponsored by APE.
wish me luck!

we're in the heart of winter now but there still isn't enough snow for me.

here's hoping that you and yours are not in the path of hurricane sandy. adam has filled the freezer with ice and secured all possible outdoor wind hazards. we are ready for a power outage but are optimistic that we'll be spared from anything but a minor inconvenience.

fifty eight degrees.

it's nearly spring and the yard work has happily begun. the smell of fresh earth, the first brave green shoots and ambitious landscaping plans are invigorating for the soul. it's hard to believe it's possible to tolerate so much time spent indoors, cooped up in our man-made spaces and shelters during the cold winter months.

longing for snow.

valentines day storm 2007 it's been an odd kind of winter here in the northeast; mid-january and barely a inch of snow on the ground.
i may be one of the few to admit it, but i am aching for snow. not just snow, but actual accumulation. i grew up around syracuse, ny and went to college in buffalo, ny (#1 and #9 respectively in U.S. cities with the highest snowfalls) making my baseline snow tolerance quite high. a storm isn't something to quiver at unless it's predicted to drop more than a foot in a few hours. certainly snow storms can be dangerous but when compared with the type of weather events other parts of the world face, heavy snow falls seem quaint and cozy.
the photo above is from the last real snow storm i can remember since moving from buffalo northerneastern new york. it was valentines day 2007. i can't imagine a better way to spend valentines day than snuggled up in a warm house watching the snow fall!
