earthlings.

"as long as there are slaughterhouses, there will be battlefields"  leo tolstoy

for those who thought that food, inc. was a movie that everyone should watch, i would challenge that earthlings is twice as enlightening.  i suspect that earthlings didn't get as much attention as food, inc. because it is difficult to watch and shakes the curtain of ignorance; whether you don't know or don't want to know.

earthlings is an intellectual and comprehensive look at the five ways animals have come to serve mankind; as pets, food, clothing, entertainment and as test subjects.

(you can watch the entire movie from the website and it's available via netflix)

  1. Yay! Thanks for sharing! This is definitely something that everyone should watch, but it's hard to share with people because, like you said, it's difficult to watch.

I can't help but think the world would be a little bit better if everyone watched it though.

I also just found out that Earthlings is apparently the first in a trilogy. They're working on the second one now, called Unity. There are a few posts about it on the Earthlings Facebook page.

  2. i've been vegetarian for over 20 years now. i stopped eating meat after watching a "faces of death" movie showing slaughterhouse scenes.

the difference with earthlings is that it doesn't show you scenes just to shock you...this sh#t really happens...every day...whether you pretend it doesn't or not.

i think that's what makes it hard to watch. the movie makes you face whatever complicity you have in our "comfortable", "harmless" day to day lives.

    phew...sorry for the rant!

and, thanks for giving me the heads-up that there will be a trilogy!
